The Court can grant the parties joint custody of their children or grant sole custody to one parent. When the Court talks about custody they are speaking about the ability to make decisions about the children from school, discipline, medical care, residence and other major decisions involving the child. Sharing custody in a joint custody arrangement means that the parents have to be able to work together. The details of that arrangement are documented in writing in what is commonly referred to as a Joint Custody Plan.
